Effective October 6, 2008, wireless access to the Internet by attorneys and staff will be available from all District and Bankruptcy courtrooms in the Jefferson City, Kansas City and Springfield courthouse locations.
Local Rule 83.11, adopted in October 2007, authorizes the use of laptop computers in the courtroom by members of the bar and their staff. This authority is now extended further to allow access to the internet and the ECF case management system. Access will be made available at the discretion of the presiding judge in each case.
Instructions for connecting will be posted at each attorney table. You will require a login and password which will be issued by the courts IT department. The request should be made to the appropriate courtroom deputy and must be requested prior to the trial or hearing you are participating in. Login and password combinations will be valid only for the duration of the matter at hand and a new login /password must be requested for each new court proceeding.
You will need to ensure that your system has wireless capability. The court will not provide any equipment nor will it delay any proceedings due to technical difficulties or failures.
The usual security cautions and concerns regarding e-mail attachments and downloaded material apply. Any internet access obtained in the courtroom must be in support of the court case or business at hand. Sound and photo/photo recording features of your equipment must be turned off while in court.
